Foundlings are not a new, but fortunately a very rare phenomenon.

                        Sometimes newborns are left in an unsafe place 
so that they rarely
                        survive.

                        The foundling hatch is there to give a distraught mother the opportunity
 to give her
                        child anonymously
                        a warm and safe
                        place.

                        Following the example of many other countries, in 2000 the VZW Mothers for Mothers

                        established the
                        first foundlings section
                        in Belgium.

                        The foundling hatch has its own phone number that is 24/7
                        reachable:

 This way the
                        mom can contact us anonymously
                        for a chat or for helpful advice and assistance.
